About me عن حياتي
Ahlan wa sahlan! My name is Ustaaza Katy and I am looking forward to getting to know you this year as your Arabic teacher!
I was born and raised in Pennsylvania. I traveled to the Middle East a number of times as a child, and loved the people that I met. So, when I began my undergraduate studies at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN I began studying Arabic as soon as possible. I was lucky enough to study abroad in Jordan, Palestine and Tunisia over the course of my studies.
Now I am a Master's student at the University of Texas at Austin where I study Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies under the direction of Dr. Mahmoud Al Batal. I am particularly interested in designing colloquial and cultural teaching materials for Arabic teachers across the country. I am also currently enrolled in the UTeach program, so I can be certified to teach Arabic at the K-12 level. Teaching Arabic is my passion, and I am looking forward to helping guide you on your own journey to learn Arabic!
